Case Study: Modern, high-tech office design

Client:Fonemedia

Location:Tadcaster

Industry:Mobile Marketing

Building:Converted period stone barn

Date:February 2019

Fonemedia engaged us to refurbish their new offices on the Grimston Park Estate. The office units needed repurposing to suit their business requirements with a modern interior design.

Suspended Ceiling

The high-pitched roof was enclosed with a suspended ceiling to provide a surface to fix the partitioning to. This also helps reduce noise between the offices – particularly when used with acoustic ceiling tiles – and is more energy efficient as there’s less space to heat.

Glazed partitions at full height

Full height glazed partitioning was used as the client wanted as much light throughout the space as possible. This has the added benefit of keeping the space looking open whilst maintaining a good degree of sound retention. The standard manifestation dots were applied to be DDA compliant – glazed walls need to be clearly identified with dots, bands, squares or some similar markings.

Striking cross-grain doors

Full-height cross-grain oak doors were selected for this project. The cross-grain veneer is a striking, modern alternative to the traditional vertical grain doors, particularly when the doors are full height. Vision panels weren’t required as there was full height frameless glass partitioning either side. The full height aluminium door frames in grey, create an eye-catching border to enhance the impact of the cross-grain doors. Each door was fitted with DDA compliant door furniture and door stops.

Complete Building Control administration

As there was a change in the layout from the previous tenet, Building Control was required. Under Building Regulations, you normally require approval for office refurbishment projects. If the project includes erecting new partitions or walls, creating new rooms, altering the fire escape routes, or making any structural changes then you almost certainly will require building regulations consent. When required, Rodley Interiors look after any Building Control administration. This includes:

  • Initial instruction and on-site consultation with a Building Control Officer prior to starting
  • Sending project details, drawings, costings and timescales
  • Managing all Officer visits during, and on completion of works

We have had many years’ experience, not only in planning but liaising with building control. We know what’s involved in the process so can plan accordingly to ensure that your project starts on time AND finishes on time with minimum disruption to your business.

Bold carpet design

During initial meetings with the client we suggested several options for carpeting and offered various samples. They were happy with one of our more striking suggestions which was the high-tech inspired Interface Visual Green Circuit Board matched with a Visual Plain Slate. We installed the carpet tiles at an angle in a plank style to create a bold design where the glass partitions fall in the centre of the green tiles.
